Ah, 2015… A year of petulance and revenge. In November 2014 We The People elected Republican majorities in Congress and state legislatures, by electing mostly TEA Party conservatives (as we have in 2010). The establishment responded with anger and resolve to thwart the will of the people by “putting these people in their place” (as they have in 2011). Here in Nevada We The People voted down an initiative to impose a $1.5B “margin tax” (gross receipts tax) by 80-20 percent of the vote, only to see the “Republican” governor and the “Republican” legislature ram it through in 2015 as a $1.5B prorated business license fee a.k.a. “commerce tax.” Screw the people; we the elite know better. Congress ended 2015 with passing the Ryan budget, which is a total sell-out to everything 0bama and the Democrats could ever hope for. Screw the people; we the elite know better:
In this pre-primary election season, the only thing they did not do, at least not formally, is rewrite a pretty Christmas carol, too (It Came upon the Midnight Clear), something like this:
We come again on the campaign trail
Like creatures rising from the deep
Mouthing slogans and promises
That you know we’ll never keep:
PISS ON THE E-EARTH AND SCREW YOU MEN
WE’LL TELL YOU WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR.
THE MORE WE TELL YOU THE SAME OLD LIES
THE LOUDER YO-OU WILL CHEER.
Well, NO. We will cheer no more. That’s why they can’t stop spewing their venom, because Trump and Cruz continue to lead the pack, and the candidates anointed by the establishment are fading.:
The best they can do, as in this last article in The Weekly Standard as an example, is resort to name-calling, unsubstantiated by so much as a link to other articles where they’d lay out the details. The “Trump phenomenon” is characterized as boorishness, ignorance, condescension, suspicion, demagoguery, inanities, offensiveness, hypocrisies, etc. That litany of put-downs, both of a candidate and of the people supporting him, sure is a great service to voters trying to select a candidate who — heaven forbid — might actually represent their views. What is this country coming to…?
Well, what this country is coming to is a general moral breakdown, under assault and highly questionable defense against enemies both foreign and domestic. The moral decay that is at the root of this problem is all too well illustrated by two stories totally unrelated to foreign or domestic politics:
http://bloom.bg/1PaF9mo Scientists Ponder How to Create Artificial Intelligence That Won’t Destroy Us
These stories are the more recent ones in a series about how artificial intelligence, genetics and other advances in science and technology are becoming threats to our very existence. Do you think these are examples of “science” running amok? I would think that “scientists” would have a moral compass that would tell them, just because you CAN do it, does not mean that you SHOULD. Supposedly they are building robots to take all of our jobs (OK, but somebody then should figure out how people are going to earn a living and support their families). They are pushing the bounds of artificial intelligence so robots will think for themselves and learn by themselves (until now, machines could do only what we program them to do). With research in fertility and genetics we now make babies in test tubes (what, the natural way does not produce enough of us?). Science and technology are supposed to SERVE, and they are supposed to serve MANKIND, not to dominate, enslave or exterminate it. But to make sure that happens, scientists must somehow be made to have an understanding of and allegiance to ethics and morality.
The moral decay and the lack of a foundation in ethics and morality is evident in the realm of foreign policy and national security. In the face of growing threat from fundamentalist islamist terrorists, documented in endless news reports such as:
and in the face of growing threat from “domestic” terrorists documented in more and more numerous news reports such as:
how do our leaders, in and out of government react? Like this:
This politically correct nonchalance (or just plain malfeasance or stupidity) is practiced in the face of growing threat to our very culture, as evidenced by news reports such as these:
It’s not like this is anything new; Churchill warned us about it a century ago:
As bad as this stuff has been in 2015, these problems are only going to get worse in 2016. The question is, will We The People have the wisdom and fortitude to elect people in 2016 who will stop lying to us and actually solve these problems? Or will we just be duped by the establishment again?
Voters, as well as anybody aspiring to elected office, not just our scientists, badly need to have an understanding of and allegiance to ethics and morality. I suggest that regularly reading the Bible and the writings of Ayn Rand is a good start, whether they are religious or not. They might also browse websites such as:
